Starting a Web3 Life from Now On

I saw this blog platform on a Telegram Channel and thought it was great. Although there are excellent products like mirrors, Chinese people can also create excellent open-source products and come here to support them.

Not your keys, not your data/money#

In the Web2 era, although we can easily use the services of major giants, we do not own our own accounts because Web2 users only borrow a free account from the service provider for their own use. Service providers can reclaim the account they lent to us without our permission, and we have almost no resistance.

I once used a virtual number from Skype to register a Telegram account. In March 2020, my account, which I had been using for 5 years, was considered a spam account by Telegram and was reclaimed without any notification. Even though I appealed to the official Telegram, it was in vain.

Similarly, WeChat's public accounts can delete users' articles at will because the data generated by users on the WeChat platform does not belong to them, but to Tencent, which has the power to control the life and death of the data produced by users on its platform.

Not your keys, not your data.

Similarly, the money in your commercial bank account does not belong to you, but to the bank. You are just borrowing an account from the bank for free. You deposit your salary into that account, and the bank keeps it for you. At the same time, the price you pay is transferring ownership of your money to the commercial bank, which can do anything with your money, such as lending it to others or freezing your account.

Not your keys, not your money.

Web3 changes everything#

The biggest change brought by Web3 is: ownership returns to the individual.

Just like what xLog, this blog platform, does, it is built on a custom EVM chain and stores blog data in decentralized file systems such as IPFS, which ensures that the data cannot be tampered with or censored.

Most importantly, users are the owners of their own data.

At the same time, DeFi - Decentralized Finance opens up services that were originally only provided by banks to individuals. Anyone can do things that only banks could do before (while also bringing many problems, such as financial fraud).

Lao Gao's interesting explanation can better help the public understand Web3:

Business self-praise#

Wallet 3 is a wallet designed specifically for Ethereum. It comes with mainstream EVM chains and L2 built-in, so users can use it out of the box without any configuration.

In addition, Wallet 3 has a user-friendly built-in browser, allowing users to directly connect to various dapps. It also supports WalletConnect, so you can connect to desktop dapps by scanning the QR code.

Wallet 3 can easily add EVM-compatible chains. xLog uses its own EVM chain, which greatly reduces the user's threshold for use. However, because this is a custom EVM-compatible chain, users need to add it manually.

Just open xlog.app in Wallet 3's browser, connect your wallet, and the Crossbell EVM-compatible chain will be automatically added.
